Rodeo Royalty

The first Rodeo Queen for the Marsh Valley Pioneer Days Rodeo was Blanche Romriell. She was chosen even though she didn't do much horse riding.

The contest itself has changed over the years to include Princesses or Junior Queens to now both, but also have been focused on horse experience. The contest focuses on how well a young lady can ride, her abilities to execute a western pattern, and knowledge ranging from horse to rodeo.

Over the years, the outfit to compete in hasn't changed much. A plain western shirt and blue to dark jeans. Some ladies wore bow ties in the eighties and nineties, in the seventies women wore polyester suits, while in the present day, some ladies embellished with wild rags to chunky necklaces to nothing at all.

The Hill Top Riding Club in the past has sponsored the queen contest back in the 50s. Pocatello Choctaw Riding Club has also particapted in the queen contest and the riding competition. Usually the queen contest was held with a jackpot that consisted mostly of barrel racing, mens' barrel racing, rescue race, and pony races.
